We are big football fans in my house and look forward to Sundays together as a family. After church the guys will head to the beach if the surf is good and the girls do some window shopping. When our team is playing we put on our jerseys, grab our snacks, and pray for a win! We have our typical game day food fare but once in awhile I like to change things up and surprise my family. These OREO Cookie Balls are perfect for Game Day!
Everybody loves OREO Cookie Balls so I decided to create some football and pennant cookie balls. I headed to Walmart to pick up some Golden OREO cookies, Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese, baking chocolate, and then stopped at my local dollar store for some blue and silver pom poms because these treats deserve a celebration!
If you’ve ever made these you know how easy they are to make. Just two ingredients, chop, mix, shape, and done.
- 1 pkg (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
- 36 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
- 4 pkg. (4 oz. each) semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
- MIX cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
- SHAPE into 48 (1-inch) balls. Freeze 10 min. Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan.
- CUSTOMIZE it with your own ingredient additions or decorative skills.
- REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until firm.
I put the cookies in my food processor in batches and chopped until finely ground. I then put all the crumbs back in the food processor and put my softened cream cheese in and mixed up until well incorporated. I wanted my cookie balls to be blue so I added some food coloring and quickly mixed again.
I popped the bowl of cookie mix into the refrigerator for about 15 minutes because it was a little soft. Once ready I formed the cookie mix into footballs and balls which would soon become pennants. I then put them in the freezer to firm up for 10 minutes.
I melted my chocolate according to the directions on the package and then dunked the football cookie ball into the melted chocolate. You can put them on sticks if you like as well. Just dip the tip of the stick into the chocolate before putting in the cookie ball. Coat cookie ball with chocolate and set aside.
I then made the pennants and dipped them in blue tinted melting chocolate (Wilton does make blue melting chocolate so if you need that color blue I would suggest using that – way easier). I used a Wilton Icing Writer to draw stitching on the footballs and “GO TEAM” on the pennants. Before the icing was dry I sprinkled some silver sanding sugar on the footballs simply because I really like sparkly things. I popped the pops in refrigerator for 10 minutes and then sprayed the pennants with Wilton Silver Mist because, you guessed it, I love everything to sparkle!
That’s it! These are ready to serve to my family as we cheer on our team!
