Operation Shower

I have a confession…I have wanted to be a part of Operation Shower since I first heard about. I mean, who wouldn’t?!  First of all, it’s a party. A baby shower actually.  A baby shower thrown by a group of very dedicated volunteers for military moms. Operation Shower hosts these parties all over the US.  They have partnered up with some big companies who are very generous with their donations. So much so that at the shower last week every mom walked away with a brand new Maclaren stroller, a Radio Flyer scooter, Stella & Dot jewelry, diapers, onesies, and a giant box of goodies filled to the brim with just about everything they need to pamper their babies.  It’s an amazing organization doing so much good for our military families and I was just so thrilled to be a part of it here in San Diego.

Jennifer from Hostess with the Mostess designed all of the printables that each of the table designers used. We could use them in any way we wanted and create any kind of tablescape as long as it was thematic.  One of the printables said, “Go make your mark on the world!” and I immediately envisioned a globe.  Didn’t know what I was going to do with the globe at that point but I was hopeful something would come to me!  I found a wrought iron globe on Craigslist for $20 and thought it was perfect.  I spray painted it white so it would look clean and polished.  Pottery Barn Kids was so generous by donating gift cards to all of the table designers.  I saw this truck mobile and thought it desperately needed a makeover…something with glitter…

I spent a lot of time working on all the little details for my table and was so pleased and grateful when Pat from ZPerfect Party offered to come and help me put it all together. Pat was a huge help and offered great advice.  It was also a lot more fun with a new friend too!

This is my table during set up…

Different view in the daylight of the globe centerpiece.  I filled the globe with mini pom poms and glittered all of the trucks from the PBK truck mobile.

Each place setting was a little different.

Close up of the favors each guest at the table went home with: Pottery Barn Kids velour zipper pouch, PBK squirt toy, Jones drink, and homemade stop light brownies.  The straws and twine were purchased at one of my go-to party suppliers, Crafts by Jilly.

Every chair had a custom onesie with fabric garland.  I took some of the silhouettes from the Go Baby Go set we were working with and made iron on transfers. These also served as favors and was so thrilled to see mommies leaving with the onesies.

There were four onesie designs and four fabric garland colors: navy, red, aqua, and yellow.

This was an amazing experience and I look forward to working with Operation Shower again.  I met some wonderful party people and felt so good about being able to be a part of such a special day in the lives of 40 very deserving military moms.  To make a great day even better, Amy announced that the table designs were judged and that I had won FIRST PLACE for my design.  I was shocked. Jaw on the floor. It felt pretty great actually.

One of my favorite moments of the day, however, (aside from the tears of joy coming from moms all around the room) is when Sophia Mickelson, daughter of Phil & Amy, gave me a huge hug and asked me if I would take one of her chocolate cupcakes that she had made the night before for the military moms.  If I had been told that was my 1st place prize I would have been thrilled.  This young woman is not only beautiful, she is poised, gracious, kind, well mannered, sweet, and full of joy.  She gave me hugs and compliments all day long which was just the icing on already yummy cake.  I took this picture and Instagram and showed her and she thought that was pretty cool.  I told her mom, Amy (who was the MC), after the shower that I thought her daughter was absolutely lovely and she looked like any proud mama would.  We stood there and talked about kids and babies for the next 15 minutes and with one more hug from Sophia I floated out of Operation Shower on cloud nine.

Here are some of the other beautiful tables…

The airplane favor boxes were designed by Piggy Bank Parties…adorable!

I just loved seeing how others used the printables.  These are the same silhouettes I used on the onesies, glasses, and straws but used in a totally different way.

I really love this glass and the simple detail of using twine and a button. So cute.

The black and yellow target used as a charger was brilliant! Gave the perfect pop of color.

Lavender Pudding (2nd Place Winner!)

My pictures do not do this table any justice. You had to walk around the whole table to catch all of her amazing details.  My favorite was the bead and button garland around the edge of the table. Montrilla even crocheted the cars on the backs of the the chairs as well as the road you see on the table. I just loved her table.

Maddycakes Muse (3rd Place Winner!)

Michelle actually had two tables and both were very different.  Isn’t the airplane bottle cute?!

Those napkin rings are made out of toilet paper rolls and colored duct table…is that not genius?!  Such a great idea and so inexpensive.

Shawna also had two table designs!  I just loved the ruffles on the chair backs.

Tania Fischer Designs

Tania is another two table designer!  I don’t know what I enjoyed more on Tania’s tables…her custom favor boxes or the garland on the firetruck.  All of her details were perfect.

Tori’s design looked like a mommy packing for a big adventure which is exactly what new motherhood is.
I think my favorite element of her design were the flying paper airplanes on the chairs.

And last but not least…the dessert table was amazing!  So many gorgeous and tasty treats!  I did sneak a little piece of that delicious cake when the shower was over and I really wish I had brought some Tupperware with me so I could take some home.  Yum!
